News About the Hammer

(News About the Hammer awarded "Track of the Day" at Garage Band)

As I had mentioned in an earlier post, I have an album, LX, posted at Garage Band. The song that is being circulated worldwide via the Internet this round is called News About the Hammer. I was just informed that the song has been awarded "Track of the Day" and will be featured on the Garage Band main page. So...I thought I might give you a little background as to where the song came from.

There was a music and information magazine that circulated in Hamilton and the surrounding area. It was a magazine very much like View, the current Hamilton musician and music magazine, Mesh Magazine out of San Francisco, Chicago's Midwest Beat , or Toronto's Now Magazine.

"The Hammer"

...as it was called, was about musicians primarily, many of them independent artists that sought to promote their own music, product, appearances, and collaborations. This magazine lived because of the very hard work of two Hamilton women that saw a need for independent artists to have a voice and decided to do something about it.

As you may have guessed, this is leading somewhere. My next post will be about The Hammer magazine with the first and second edition covers, some history, and maybe a quote or two from one of the originators! This magazine treated artists with great respect, whether you were Daniel Lanois, a Hamilton native we are all proud of, (just Google his name), or an independent artist putting out his/her/their first album.

Stay tuned for the next post. In the meantime, click on this link if you have some surfing time:

and feel free to click on "Play All" for some tunes to surf with.
